Does Art Have A Purpose?
Many times artists are criticized for the art they create. Often their work is difficult to understand or seems ridiculous. As we study art this semester, my hope is that you will learn to see art in a new way. That you will discover how to use art as a way to communicate and to express your thoughts, emotions, and the world around you.
I recently asked the 8th grade to express what art is and what they believed the purpose of art is. Here are a few of their responses...
"There really isn't an exact reason for art. Art is just another way to express yourself." - Annonymous.
"The purpose of art is to show an artistic creative side of a person. It's also a way to show emotion." -Isamar.
"The purpose of art is that you can show creativity and talent that some people have. And probably sell for a grip of money." -Jeanette.
"The purpose of art is to express feeling, thoughts and your point of view." -Zack.
"Good art is something." -Andrew.
"There is no purpose to art." -Annonymous.
"The purpose of art is to be creative and to use your imagination." -Marissa.
"I think that art is or can be anything. Art is something that you create.
I think that people are, can be called art because we were created." -Claudia.
"To me, art is everything. Its colorful, fun, expressive, creative, and always unique. Art can be anything you want it to be. Art also isn't just drawing. It can be poetry, stories and all different types of things."
